Practice History

The practice was founded in 1969 to serve this area of the enlarging new town. Dr Rolfe was the first doctor to be appointed to the practice and, as it expanded, Dr Leslie Southgate joined the partnership. The practice was housed in temporary premises, in an ordinary terraced house at 2 Durham Road and the health visitors were housed next door at 4 Durham Road. Dr Rolfe and Dr Southgate left the practice in 1971. At that time Dr George took over the practice and was joined soon after by Dr Shareef and Dr Zaidi.

The practice moved to the existing health centre in 1974. At that time it was a brand new purpose-built health centre and it was a great benefit to have all the health care workers based in the same premises. Since then, we have continued to ensure that the health centre retains its status as a modern facility with treatment rooms, consulting rooms and offices all presenting a high standard that reflects their fitness for purpose.

Dr Amanda Wilson joined the practice in 1988. Dr George retired from the practice in 1996 after 25 years' service to the practice. Dr Chris Saunders joined the practice in 1996 and took over the care of Dr George's patients. Dr Delany and Dr Brooke joined the practice in 2000 when Dr Shareef retired. Dr Zaidi retired from the practice at the end of 2004 and Dr Amanda Flowers joined the practice in August 2005. The practice now also covers the new development of Great Ashby.
